About the LVR file format

An .lvr file holds one hinário: its title and author, and every hino with its lyrics and repetition bars. It is how hinários travel between the O Livro app, the Hinário Editor and the printer.

The name

LVR is short for Livro, as in O Livro da Floresta, the app the format was made for. The files end in .lvr, for example O-Cruzeiro.lvr.

What is inside

An .lvr file is plain text, written as JSON, a format that computers read easily and people can still follow. It holds the title and author of the hinário, then its hinos in order: number, title, author and lyrics, stanza by stanza, with the repetition bars next to the lines.

There is no layout in it: no fonts, no page size, no pictures. Only the content. That keeps the files small enough to send by WhatsApp or email, and it lets every program show the same hinário in its own way.

What it is good for

How to get an .lvr file

The Hinário Editor

The Hinário Editor creates and edits .lvr files in the browser, on a computer or on a phone. Open a file or a PDF, correct a hino, set the repetition bars, add or reorder hinos, and save the .lvr again. Everything stays on your device - nothing is uploaded.

Build your own software

The format is open and documented in full in the LVR File Definition. Everyone is invited to use it for their own software: another app, a website, a print tool, a converter. The more programs read and write .lvr, the more easily hinários travel between them.
